All Peterson, 27, has to do is put pressure on the weak-chinned Khan in the same way that Marcos Maidana and Breidis Prescott did and he’ll have an excellent chance of winning. Peterson already proved himself against the equally quick and much harder hitting Victor Ortiz in a 10 round draw last year in December.

Peterson got up off the deck in the 3rd round to fight to a draw when things looked bleak for him early on. The good news for Peterson is that Khan has none of the power that Ortiz had going for him, and likely won’t even be thinking of throwing any power shots if Peterson can give him a taste of his own power early on. Khan doesn’t like to get hit hard and will be looking to run if he gets hit with anything big in the early part of the fight.

The only thing that Peterson needs to be watchful of is Khan’s habit of holding and hitting. Khan did a great job of that in his win over Zab Judah in his last fight last July. The way to keep from getting held by Khan is to nail him with uppercuts each time Khan attempts to grab you around the back of the neck or the head to pull you forward.

Other than that, the referee needs to be tipped off about Khan’s habit of shoving his opponents when they get in close. This shouldn’t be something that the referee should be told to watch for, as he should immediately see it and stop action to warn Khan against it. But Khan got away with that move again, again again in his fight against Maidana last December, while then referee working the fight Joe Cortez just stood there without taking points off from Khan.
