Arreola is a Mexican American, but the reason he’s fighting in Mexico instead of the U.S is likely to try and build a big Mexican fan base for Arreola over there so that he can pool from that in the future. It’s a huge country and boxing is very popular over there, unlike in the U.S where boxing is more of sport that has been increasingly marginalized since it was taken off of network television in the late 70s.

This should be the last of the easy fights for Arreola, as IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko could be his next fight in 2012 if Wladimir’s trainer Emanuel Steward has anything to do with it. Arreola is the best heavyweight in the United States right now, and Wladimir would like to fight Arreola over there. Arreola really hasn’t done much to deserve another title shot, however.

Arreola was beaten by Vitali Klitschko, the WBC heavyweight champion in 2009, and then beaten again this time by Tomasz Adamek in 2010. Since then, it’s been all 2nd and 3rd tier opposition for Arreola. He hasn’t mixed in any 1st opposition and sadly Butler, who is coming off of a 10 round decision loss to Travis Walker in his last fight in May, is the best fighter that Arreola has fought. Arreola would be better off fighting Walker again rather than Butler, although Arreola already stopped Walker in the 3rd round three years ago in a fight where Arreola was dropped by Walker in the 2nd round.
