That may be because Ortiz is the bigger fighter, the harder puncher and the younger guy by a wide margin or it could be just because Ortiz has seen so many people during his rough child hood that have used intimidation to try and get what they want from others to gain an edge. Whatever it is, Ortiz is mentally a lot stronger than other past opponents that have faced Mayweather and it’s going to be exciting to see if this benefits Ortiz any come Saturday night when the punches start flying between him and Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

At the final press conference, Ortiz said “He [Mayweather] tries a little too hard to scare people. I think it’s funny how hard he tries to get into somebody’s head. He talks some stuff. I’ll take it.”

Ortiz seems to have done a great job of analyzing what Mayweather is about. He likes to get in close, say things that create a mental picture in the minds of his opponents about what’s going to happen to them when they step foot in the ring. But 34, not having fought in over a year and showing clear signs of having aged during that time, Mayweather’s attempts at intimidation seem less frightening as they did in the past.

Mayweather is just going to have to prove that he’s the better fighter in the ring instead of hoping to gain an edge against Ortiz, because the Mexican American fighter is coming with a purpose on Saturday. He wants to hold onto his World Boxing Council title and he wants to be the first one to give Mayweather a loss.
