The condition isn’t considered a serious one, but it is something to keep in mind if this continues to be a problem that plagues the 24-year-old Ortiz in the future. Ortiz received a day off along with massages to try and treat the problem.

Ortiz is going to need to be 100% if he’s to have a chance at beating Floyd Mayeather Jr. (41-0, 25 KO’s) on September 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather doesn’t just beat his opponents, he dominates them in one-sided fights. It doesn’t seem to matter whether he’s facing guys with a lot of punching power like Ortiz or not, he still dominates them in one-sided fights.

Ortiz hasn’t faced anyone with Mayweather’s skills before and this is going to be a huge test for him. Ortiz defeated Andre Berto by a 12 round decision last April, but looked vulnerable in that fight. In the end, Ortiz looked to be the fighters with the better stamina. Berto needed to spent a lot of the fight resting against the ropes like an older fighter rather than someone only 27.

Ortiz hurt his back during the training camp while working out. This could be a sign that Ortiz is working really hard to try and get the most of himself during the camp. However, when you take your body to the ultimate limit to get ready for important fights like the Mayweather one, injuries and over-training are a real risk.
