Bernard Hopkins – The Phenomena

By Liam Brindle: On 15th October 2011 Bernard Hopkins will climb under those dazzling lights and entertain the thousands in attendance and the millions watching live for the 60th time as a professional and he will also be the oldest defending boxing world champion of all time.

He will be facing a man who many claimed that Bernard was ducking in ‘Bad’ Chad Dawson.

I have read several articles on this site and several other sites discussing how Bernard will have to: slow the fight down, will have to hit chad low head but and generally use underhand tactic to gain that sought after W.

I don’t know how people come to this conclusion, I mean when you look at his last 5 fights (allow me to make the point that he this will be his 7th fight in 3 years, which is amazing at any age but 46 is nothing short of incredible) he has been absolutely convincing in every single sense of the word!

He got in the ring with a dangerous, undefeated much favored Kelly ‘The Ghost’ Pavlik (who had an 85% KO record) as an aging underdog coming off a close SD defeat to Joe Calzaghe, what happened? Bernard but on an absolute clinic, bust Kelly up, boxed for 12 rounds, showed fantastic foot work and punch variety and even threw in some show boating!

The next fight he faced Enrique Ornelas, people where wondering if Hopkins’ previous performance was a one off, not a chance, it was much the same, Bernard dominating proceedings from the first to the final bell.

Then cam the grudge match with Roy Jones Jr, many had Hopkins down as the favorite as RJJ was coming off a defeat to Danny Green, but still B-Hop went in there and did what he did to Roy and in all fairness he made it look so easy in was borderline embarrassing to watch a legend getting slapped around like that.

Bernard then signed to fight the dangerous and strong Jean Pascal, again people doubted Bernard saying Pascal would blast him away early, what happened? Bernard boxed beautifully, rolling back the years before our very eyes! The contest was judged a draw (very controversial) .

Hopkins wasted little time in letting his feelings known, quickly arranging a rematch in Philadelphia? Nope back to Canada, the controversial setting for the last match up.

This time Bernard left nothing to chance and boxed so incredibly well it would be impossible for even Jean Pascals parents to say he won. Bernard was out of this world, even doing pushups between rounds to demonstrate his fitness.

It blows my mind that people are even doubting this man, in my opinion he will get in there with Dawson and he will have far too much for him, Dawson will become very frustrated and begin to feel sorry for himself by round 6.

Bernard will win the fight by UD and continue to defy mother nature.
