Wach to fight in October, possibly against a contender

By Dan Ambrose: Heavyweight fringe contender Mariusz Wach (25-0, 13 KO’s) will reportedly be back in action in October and possibly against a contender. Wach, 31, stopped an out of shape looking Kevin McBride in the 4th round last Friday night at the Mohegan Sun Casino, in Uncasville, Connecticut. Wach landed a right hand against an out of breath McBride, knocking him out.

Since that win, some boxing fans are suddenly seeing the big 6’7″ Wach as a knockout artist for some insane reason. He’s not. He’s fought 2nd and 3rd tier opposition his entire six year pro career and his KO percentage is only 52%. That’s not good. But if you look at him and watch slow his hands and feet are, it’s a wonder that he has any knockouts because he’s badly lacking in the speed department.

I don’t know who Wach’s management want to match him up against in October, but they need to make sure they pick another Mcbride type fighter if they want to keep Wach winning. If they put him in with someone that can actually fight like say Alexander Povetkin or Eddie Chambers, Wach will probably lose. I can see some of the fringe contenders knocking Wach out as well like Alexander Ustinov, Kubrat Pulev, Jean Marc Mormeck, Derrick Rossy, and Ray Austin. I’m not high any of those fighters, but I seem as being a lot better than Wach.

This is how I see it: Wach will likely continue to get matched up against 2nd tier guys and then beat two or three lower ranked fringe contenders without much talent. Wach will then, like Tomasz Adamek, get a shot against one of the heavyweight champion Klitschko brothers, and get brutally knocked out much in the same way that McBride did. Fans will wonder how in the world Wach was ever given a shot at a title in the first place.
