By William Mackay: David Haye sounds like he’s completely desperate to try and get IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko back in the ring so that Haye can try to recapture his lost World Boxing Association title and along with it his respect in the boxing community. Haye put in a fight so bad and so timid that it basically undid all the good things that Haye had done in the past three years in fighting his way to a heavyweight title, albeit against mostly older heavyweights without a lot of power.

Haye lost badly to Wladimir last Saturday and has been working hard with interview after interview trying to make Wladimir see the benefit of giving him a rematch. Haye is hitting it at the angle of money that Wladimir can make if he fights him again and also is pointing out that if Wladimir wants to try knock him out he needs to fight him one more time. It’s all pretty shallow, especially Haye’s constant mentioning of money. The boxing world just paid a lot of money in the UK to see Haye not really try hard in fighting a safety first fight in losing to Wladimir. And before that, boxing fans in the UK paid to see Haye beat Audley Harrison in a boring mismatch that few boxing fans enjoyed. Haye has fought terribly in two consecutive fights and it’s sad to see Haye talking about money when he’s failed to deliver good performances for fans.

“If he [Wladimir] offered me a fight in November, I would take it,” Haye said to Sky Sports News. “It’s down to Wlad to give me the opportunity…If he wants me, I’m still here as the challenger. I’d go back to Germany to fight him. I hope it can happen.”

It’s sad what Haye is reduced to doing. He sounds like he’s begging Wladimir for a rematch to see him saying he’d go back to Germany to fight Wladimir, it’s really bad. Haye needs to have some dignity. He’s groveling and it’s so pathetic. It reminds of a man getting dumped by his woman and then begging her 24/7 to give him another chance, and all that does is turn her completely off. Haye would have a better chance of getting a rematch with Wladimir if he just shut up and show that he can do other things without him. That’s how you get Wladimir to take notice. Go fight a few people and look good, and Wladimir will show interest.
