Image: Calzaghe, Khan, Froch, Roach & Lewis: How could so many people be so wrong about Haye-Klitschko?By Scott Gilfoid: It’s really amusing and dreadfully disappointing to see how many knowledgeable fighters and trainers were wrong about the outcome of last Saturday’s fight between IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBA champion David Haye.

To me it was a cut and dried mismatch with the much more talented Wladimir on course to make Haye look like a hopeless amateur hype job, and that’s exactly what happened. Of course, I like to think of myself as an expert in my field, so me getting it right is expected. However, look at all these guys that got it wrong and picked Haye to beat Wladimir: Freddie Roach, Amir Khan, Lennox Lewis, Joe Calzaghe, Carl Froch, Kevin Mitchell, John Murray, etc. The list goes on and on with tons of people having picked Haye to beat Wladimir.

Here are some of the brilliant people who sided with me in picking Wladimir to school Haye: Frank Warren, James DeGale, Mike Tyson. All of them saw what I saw in Haye that he didn’t have the talent and the skills needed to win. God, I hate being so right.

Haye looked like an amateur who had laced up the gloves for the first time. All those lunging attacks where he would fall off balance like some kind of amateur from one of those tough man contests. It was pathetic. His trainer Adam Booth, who was seen as a genius before the fight, used the same strategy that he devised for George Groves against James DeGale. As far as I can tell, that’s only strategy that I see from Booth. It’s like a cookie cutter strategy. It works with one fight, barely, and then tries it again and again. To be fair, it wouldn’t have mattered if Haye had fought a different fight plan against Wladimir; the fact matter is Wladimir was just too good for Haye.
