Mayweather vs. Ortiz: Is Floyd ducking Pacquiao? – Pt 2

By Glenn Findley: Manny Pacquiao’s inherent fan-base in America will not be that of the magnitude of Floyd Mayweather’s, therefore vigilantly electing an up and coming twenty four year old like Ortiz against a household name in Mosley or Margarito is by no means going to be a feasible option for Manny until all established names have been dismantled with a terminating finale.

This is precisely why Mayweather fought the household reputations of De La Hoya, Hatton, Marquez and Mosley….the clamor for hard-cash against recognized names with huge fan-base followings, constructed over many gathering years of their impending careers. This is solely why Pacquiao followed in pursuit of the identical names; the currency of ready money. This is business; this is economic reality…unfortunately, this is boxing. Once all hall-of-famers are dispatched; now we see the assault on the not-so-high earning young guns launching with the inauguration of Ortiz for Mayweather. Folks are bestowing Floyd with admirable acclaim for choosing a young fighter when the truth is; there is literally no-one left for both Manny and Floyd to engage with but the young guns….and more importantly; themselves. The top names have all been taken on and discarded with embroiling abandonment.

After dispatching of Marquez; Pacquiao too, will no doubt embark his offensive assault on the young crop of guns in the Welterweight division. What we all paid attention to though were Floyd’s followers publicizing the fact that when Manny’s team were looking to negotiate; Floyd turned them down due to his legal problems. Fair enough we decreed; that is his choice. We were all enlightened in no uncertain terms that once Floyd dealt with his legal technicalities; the fight with Manny would culminate in conscious realization. As soon as Manny’s team opted that they could hang around for Floyd no longer; what ensues?…Floyd’s instantaneous endorsement of contracts with his autographed initials for Victor Ortiz.

Facts speak louder than a thousand opinions so let’s get this perfectly clear. When Manny was contractually tied in to sanction a violent engagement against Antonio Margarito…Floyd spewed out his vile, racist tirade against Manny. Fact. When Manny was contractually free after crushing Antonio Margarito’s orbital bone socket…Floyd announced he had “co-incidentally” retired and hush silence enveloped his chaotic personal life. Fact. When Manny signed up for Mosley; Floyd then embraced Twitter, dredging up Pacquiao’s losses from a long-forgotten Jurassic era when Pacquiao’s combating fighting style was primitive at best. Fact. When Manny was contractually free after pummelling frightening trepidation into Mosley, Floyd is suddenly on mute with Pacquiao’s team divulging they cannot even embark on instigating consultations with him; no negotiations, no response, no nothing. Even when a basic, fundamental $65 million is disclosed to have been tendered forthwith. Fact. When team Pacquiao reveal they cannot wait any longer for Floyd to surface and instead plump for Marquez….literally weeks later; Floyd has miraculously signed up to fight Ortiz. Fact. What will it actually take to spell this out to the boxing public and how clear does it have to be exactly; when a repetitive pattern like this has quite clearly and un-ambiguously emerged showing Floyd’s smoke and mirrors avoidance of signing on the dotted line to fight Manny Pacquiao?

We can all live and exist in a consciously fabricated fantasy world if we so desire; where our boxing hero’s have no flaws; do not duck anyone, are morally cleaning up sports rather than avoiding all-time living greats…get real. Floyd Mayweather for all his character defects is a savvy individual; he warily plucks and harvests his moments in and out of the ring at optimum points. Hark back to Floyds podium rant after another exiled retirement, professing to be the “greatest” on the “co-incidental” day Pacquiao TKO’d Ricky Hatton; followed by his posting of pictures with George Bush whilst Manny was “co-incidentally” in the White House meeting the President in the highest of acclaims. Floyd knows exactly what mischievous up-take he saunters at all times, inside and outside of the ring. Over the years, Floyd has fought those he knew he could dismantle …and shunned those he knew he couldn’t.
