Haye’s best chance of beating Wladimir is to rabbit punch and hold and hit

By Scott Gilfoid: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye’s trainer/manager Adam Booth mentioned yesterday that he has a secret strategy that he’s devised for Haye to beat IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko next month on July 2nd. There really isn’t much Haye can do to beat Wladimir that would deviate a whole heck of a lot from what Haye has been doing in his past fights. Let’s be real here. Haye is one of the most predictable fighters that you can think of.

Haye either runs around looking to pot shot or he goes wild with punches when his opponents attempt to clinch him. Haye is especially dangerous with rabbit punches and holding and hitting when his opponent attempts to clinch. I’d be willing to bet that’s the secret strategy that Booth has come up with for Haye to beat Wladimir. It’s clear that Wladimir loves to clinch, and that’s something that Haye has talked about. But what Haye hasn’t said is that he’ll be doing to defeat that. His silence about this tells me that Haye is planning on using that as his one ace card to beat the tall Ukrainian.

Haye won’t have to take any chance of rushing Wladimir because he’ll do the work for Haye by initiating the clinches. Once Wladimir is holding onto Haye in a harmless clinch, I see Haye going wild with the rabbit shots and the holding and hitting. Poor Wladimir will practically defenseless against this attack, and if the referee lets’ Haye get away with it then Wladimir will be quickly finished off. It may not even matter if the referee does take a point away from Haye. If he can stun Wladimir with a nice rabbit shot or hurt him by holding the back of his neck and then tagging him with repeated rights, Wladimir won’t likely be able to recover even if a point is taken away by the referee.

Haye can then easily finish him off. Sure, the outcome would be controversial but Haye would likely tell Wladimir he’s moving on to bigger and better things. Haye’s loyal British fans will probably give Haye cover by saying fouling is part of the game. In essence, Haye will have won the fight but will have done it through less than honorable means. With Wladimir flatly rejected in his efforts to get a rematch, Vitali may be angry enough to take on Haye to get revenge.

This is the only way I see Haye beating Wladimir and sadly enough, I can see it happening.
