What’s next for Manny Pacquiao?

Image: What's next for Manny Pacquiao?By Alexis Aviles: Last Saturday night, Manny Pacquiao defeated “Sugar” Shane Mosley in dominating fashion. After feeling Pac-Mans power in the 3rd round, Shane went from trying to win a fight to trying to survive one. The end result indicated two things. One being that Shane Mosley should retire, as he doesn’t hold the same will to fight as he once has in his legendary career. The other being that there is clearly no more big money fights for Pacquiao after this.

What we know now is that Juan Manuel Marquez, presuming he defeats David Diaz, and Golden Boy Promotions doesn’t match the fight offer will be meeting the Filipino slugger in November. The fight will be at the welterweight limit at 147lbs, which realistically gives Marquez a slim chance getting a victory. There have been rumors that if that fight does not happen other options include Zab Judah, which I think will be a mismatch as Judah has seen better days. The next one is Timothy Bradley who is rumored to be signing with Top Rank soon will be the interesting of the two, but lacks the explosiveness of what will make this a fight of the year candidate.

So where does Pacquiao go from here? The best option is Floyd Mayweather from a boxing point of view, and for the mainstream media to gain huge interest in the sport again. Unfortunately, it’s not going to happen any time soon given the circumstances. The names at welterweight aren’t enticing as they once were. The only fight interesting enough is one that even promoter Lou Dibella is willing to accept, but Bob Arum would most likely back off from. That is a fight with Sergio Martinez. Dibella on twitter after being asked “What do u think of Pac-Maravilla 155 catchweight at weigh in w/ a max 165 weight fight night?” replied with “DONE. TELL ARUM. 154 OK TOO”.

Only time will tell what holds for the Filipino Superstar. But until boxing fans can get that Pac/Mayweather fight we have to settle for less, and by less I mean whatever Bob Arum and Top Rank want us to see. Boxing fans give your thoughts in the comments.
