Image: Kessler-Bouadla on 6/4: Mikkel wants Bute or Super Six tourney winner in near futureBy William Mackay: Former WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (43-2, 32 KO’s) will be fighting for the first time in over a year when he takes on little known fringe contender Mehdi Bouadla (22-3, 10 KO’s) next month on June 4th at the Parken, in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Although Bouadla is technically a contender, you can consider him more as a 2nd tier guy because he looks very, very mediocre in some of the fight’s I’ve seen of him. His hand speed is very slow, his size limited and his defense completely missing. He’ll be lucky if he lasts five rounds with Kessler.

If Kessler wins this fight, he’s talking about wanting to fight either IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute or the winner of the Super Six tournament. Kessler is also open to fighting a rematch with Carl Froch, whom he beat in his last fight a year in April in the Super Six tournament. Kessler has to subsequently pull out of the tournament after that fight due to a lingering eye injury that he had before that bout that was making it hard for him to fight.

The injury has since healed and Kessler is looking to take on the best guy possible. The Bute fight appears to be at the top of Kessler’s list. It’s not hard to see why because Bute, who fights in Canada, is able to draw huge crowds of over 15,000 fighting there and a fight between the two of them would be a huge event. But first Kessler has to get Bouadla out of the way. There is no room for slip ups in that fight, because if Kessler loses then his chances of getting the Bute fight will go down then drain as well. However, he’s picked the right opponent to take on in his tune-up bout next month in choosing Bouadla and this should be a nice easy win for Kessler.
