Haye says he plans on pentrating Wladimir’s defense and have him crawling on July 2nd

By Sen McDaniel: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) says he doesn’t plan on letting IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) get his offense started on July 2nd in their bout in Hamburg, Germany. Haye plans on getting to Wladimir early before the big 6’6″ Ukrainian gets his powerful jabs started and take him out with power shots that send him to him down for the count.

Speaking with 3morerounds.com, Haye said “I plan to permeate, penetrate & percolate Wladimir’s defense and he will be stumbling and crawling in that ring come July 2nd.”

In order for Haye to put Wladimir in that condition, he will have to get to him early within the first five or six rounds because anything after that point will put Haye in dangerous territory of either running out of gas or taking too much punishment to the head. This is going to be a tough fight for Haye if he can’t score a quick knockout because he’ll have to move much more in this fight than he has in past fights. Haye doesn’t have the physique for someone that can move for long without it weakening him.

Against the limited older fighters that Haye has been matched against, he’s been able to move around without getting hit too much. However, Wladimir has a long reach and will be hitting Haye while he glides around on the outside. This will force Haye to come at Wladimir much faster than he would otherwise want to do given the danger involved. For Haye to win, he has to attack Wladimir hard like Haye did in his fight against 6’4″ Enzo Maccarinelli in 2008. Haye went at Maccarinelli early in the 2nd, hurting him with a powerful right hand and then taking him out with a flurry of punches. Maccarinelli, who had the power to beat Haye if you could land his shots, was too slow to react and ended up getting taken out in a flurry of shots. This is the strategy that Haye has to take against Wladimir because if Haye eats too many jabs to the head, it could make him punch drunk and vulnerable to getting knocked out.
