Image: Adamek vs. McBride mismatch this SaturdayBy Dan Ambrose: Heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (4-1, 28 KO’s) will be in with his final mismatch this Saturday night against 37-year-old Kevin McBride (35-8-1, 29 KO’s) at the Prudential Center, in Newark, New Jersey.

Adamek has taken the easy way to a title shot by facing largely weaker heavyweights, mixed in with one decent one Chris Arreola. This will be Adamek’s third easy fight in a row after being shook up by Arreola but still getting the win. McBride has lost an incredibly four out of his last five fights, making him a peculiar opponent for someone ranked as high as Adamek.

However, is in one of his milking fights because that’s really all you can think of this fight. It’s no kind of tune-up for either of the Klitschkos because McBride isn’t anything close to either of them. It probably doesn’t matter who Adamek fights. He’s going to get badly beaten by either of the Klischkos and the only way he won’t get knocked out if if he runs all night long. He won’t win. But he will beat the likes of McBride; I’ll give him that much.

This should be a nice mismatch and safe fight for Adamek. McBride last fought in October 2010, beating Franklin Egobi y a 3rd round TKO. Before that, McBride had lost to Mike Mollo, Andrew Golota, Zack Page and Matt Skelton in four straight losses. That tells you all you need to know about McBride. Is this a good tune-up fight for Adamek? No. It’s a lousy one. Maybe you could look the other way if this was a one-time thing, but this has become a habit for Adamek to fight older fighters past their prime. Before this, Adamek fought Michael Grant and Vinny Maddalone in his last two fights.
