Wladimir says Haye opted not to fight Vitali because he wants the weaker Klitschko

By William Mackay: IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) was very impressed with his older brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko’s 1st round KO win over challenger Odlanier Solis (17-1, 12 KO’s) on Saturday night in Cologne, Germany. Vitali fought patiently for most of the 1st round until landing a hard right hand to the head of Solis, staggering him, causing Solis to injure his knee in the process of falling to the canvas.

The fight couldn’t continue at that point because Solis had hurt his leg too badly for him to continue. Wladimir, looking starry-eyed, summed up why his next opponent WBA heavyweight champion David Haye specifically targeted Wladimir rather than Vitali, saying “You can see why David Haye chose to fight me and not my brother. He was incredible today. David is definitely going to say to Vitali, ‘I will fight you down the road but Wladimir is next because he is weaker.”

Of course Haye chose to fight Wladimir first rather than taking on Vitali. Haye is smart enough to know that Vitali is not a good match-up because of his ability to take hard shots and fire back with sledgehammer fight ending right hands like the one he clipped Solis with today. Haye is looking to get a knockout over Wladimir and then move on to the hard part of taking on Vitali – if Haye ever gets to that point. A lot of boxing fans think Haye will never fight Vitali whether Haye beats Wladimir or not. It’s hard to argue with that belief because Haye hasn’t seemed at all interested in fighting Vitali in the past and I can’t see anything changing if he were to beat Wladimir.
