Will Mosley go easy on Pacquiao?

Image: Will Mosley go easy on Pacquiao?by Sean Lewis: Is Shane Mosley going to take it easy on Manny Pacquiao. While this question may seem preposterous upon first examination, it is the opinion of this writer that this scenario should be taken seriously. Mosley’s obvious, physical gifts naturally leads one to assume that this will be an easy nights work, despite his advanced age. He is fighting a fighter that is naturally smaller, is not a puncher (as evidenced by his low K.O. ratio), has a defense that can be described as porous at best, and has never demonstrated the ability to fight in close, or tie up with any degree of competency.

At first glance, this may seem to be a walk-over. Hear me out. What if Shane has decided that it would not only be easier, but more lucrative, to take it easy on Manny. He could possibly let Manny hang around for the full twelve in hopes that he can make the fight appear close enough that a rematch is warranted. Surely if Shane allows Manny to put up a spirited effort in a losing battle the public will clamor for a hotly anticipated rematch.

I can’t see it in Mosley’s best interest to defeat Pacquiao easily as it would leave Mayweather as the only viable option to provide the kind of money that Shane needs at this point in his career. Additionally, the ease with which Mayweather defeated Mosley the first time around will probably dampen the fan interest to some degree making Mosley-Pacquiao II the only logical choice. Additionally, if Mosley defeats Pacquiao easily the average fight fan wouldn’t pay hard earned money to see him fight anyone else in the division.

A Mayweather fight would be the only option, and anyone with any true boxing knowledge knows the ease with which Mayweather would dispose of either Pacquiao or Mosley. Therefore, my official prediction is a unanimous decision in favor of Mosley with Pacquiao being allowed to have his moments leading to a second fight where Mosley defeats him soundly, leaving Maywather in the cold, and Shane adding another accolade to his illustrious career.
