By William Mackay: Having suffered an abdominal injury myself many years and having to endure this injury for almost a year, I think the chances are very high that IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko won’t be ready to go by July for a fight against WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. That’s bad news for Haye, because the contract that Haye will be signing for his fight against one of the Klitschkos in June or July states that Haye will have to fight Vitali Klitschko if Wladimir is unable to make the fight because of an injury.
Let’s look at the situation at hand. Wladimir suffered an abdominal injury in December and now three months later, he had to pull out of another fight with Dereck Chisora because the injury isn’t healing. That’s really not surprising because Wladimir suffered one of the worst kinds of injuries you can suffer with a two inch tear to his abdominal muscles. That is a huge tear and much worse than the one I suffered.
I honestly don’t think Wladimir will be ready to go in June or July. That kind of injury may easily linger on for an entire year with it getting re-torn over and over again each time Wladimir tries to come back too soon. I hope Haye doesn’t mind fighting Vitali because that’s who he’s probably going to be facing next, not Wladimir. No way will Wladimir’s injury be sufficiently healed by June or July. Not with a two inch tear. I give Haye no chance at all at beating Vitali.
