Julio Cesar Chavez Jr vs. Sebastian Zbik on June 4th

By Craig Joseph Daly: June 4th (Saturday), 2011
At Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA (TBC)
Sebastian Zbik (30-0-0) 10KO’s vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (42-0-1) 30KO’s)

Despite the German Zbik being the titleholder going into this fight, it is the challenger Julio Cesar Chavez Jr who will open as a projected -400(1/4) favourite with Zbik’s price likely to start at +300(3/1) and possibly lengthen due to the popularity of Chavez Jr. Being the son of the greatest Mexican boxer that ever lived surely has had its benefits for Junior but perhaps the time has come when the average punter is about to reap the spoils of Julio’s lineage and the overzealous presumptions that accompany it. If you are to examine both men’s records you will see there is very little in the difference. Both are undefeated, both have been awarded highly debatable decision victories (Chavez more so) and neither man has faced a legitimate world class opponent which tells you both are very beatable.

As a professional Zbik, has seldom boxed outside of Germany and never outside of Europe. In his 44 fights to date (one no contest), I don’t recall Chavez ever having been in with a European based fighter. Even at the betting prices mentioned, the fight is still extremely close on paper. Where the upset figures to be a major one is in the fact that Chavez Jr, having garnered such fanfare throughout his still burgeoning career is, for the first time in a genuine 50-50 fight against a fellow undefeated professional. Will Zbik’s durability and air tight defence win the day and puncture the Chavez bandwagon? Or will Chavez learn to negate the Germans straight up style under the tutelage of the finest trainer in the sport? Upset Likelihood: Mid range

June 26th or July 2nd
Germany (TBA)
Wladimir Klitschko (55-3-0) 49KO’s vs. David Haye (25-1-0) 23KO’s
Well let’s not jinx it!

The great thing about the upset is, it’s sure to be one I failed to mention.
