Haye’s Growing Opportunity

By Che McCarthy: WBA Heavyweight Champion David Haye (25-1, 23KO’s) must be delighted with the turn of events that are building up to his unification showdown with either Klitschko brother. Haye, who is scheduled to face IBF and WBO Champ, Wladimir (55 – 3, 49 KO’s), has already started his training camp, yet it is uncertain which Klitschko he will end up facing. With Wladmir suffering from a long term abdominal injury, it looks as though older brother and WBC Champ, Vitali (41 – 2, 38 KO’s), could step into the ring should Wladmir need to pull out through injury.

However, with Vitali fighting unbeaten Cuban, Odlanier Solis tonight, you have to feel that it’ll be a struggle for the 39-year-oldyear old Ukrainian to be back to 100% for a showdown with Haye in July, should he have to step in for Wladimir, especially if the Cuban can take Vitali through some tough rounds.

Then of course there is the possibility that Solis beats Vitali Klitschko tonight. That leaves Vitali Klitschko without a belt but with a lot of doubters going into a potential dust-up with Haye. Should Solis beat Klitschko, who is to say Haye will then want his fight with Vitali to go ahead? Haye would have no belt to gain but an awful lot to lose.

David Haye, after almost 2 years of criticism for ducking the Klitschko’s and failing to agree terms is now in a position where he could end up facing a rusty and injured Wladimir Klitschko or an aged and potentially, recently beaten Vitali Klitschko.

Of course this is all ‘if’s and but’s’ and Wladimir could overcome his injury and go through with the fight and bang Haye straight out, or Vitali could beat Solis comfortably tonight and then go on to dominate Haye for his retirement fight, however things are turning out much better than anticipated for the widely criticized Haye at this moment in time and the odds might just be swinging in his favour.
