Image: Froch thinks he would easily beat Pavlik, also still talking about Pascal boutBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) thinks that he can easily beat number #1 ranked WBC contender Kelly Pavlik (36-2, 32 KO’s). Froch has a Super Six tournament semifinal fight coming up on May 21st against Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s), and Froch might not even win that fight.

I suspect Froch will lose that fight. If not, he’s still got WBA Andre Ward ahead of in the finals and Froch won’t win that fight. Pavlik wouldn’t be an easy fight either. Pavlik is like a mirrored image of Froch. Both are straight ahead fighters that lead with their face and have terrible defensive ability.

Speaking to thisisnottingham.co.uk, Froch said “I’m not worried about [about Pavlik]. He would be easy to beat. Pavlik was big and strong at his weight but he would be out of his depth at super middle. He got handed a massive whopping when he took on Bernard Hopkins.”

Froch is one to talk. He was whipped by Mikkel Kessler and dominated by Andre Dirrell in a gift decision win in 2009. That hardly gives him room to talk about Pavlik getting beaten by Hopkins. And, as far as Pavlik being out of his depth at super middleweight, that might be because of him not having the same kind of talent as guys like Ward and Dirrell. But it’s not because Pavlik doesn’t have the size to compete at super middleweight. He’s nearly 6’3″ and walks around in the 190s between fights. He hits hard enough to knock out and bust up Froch, believe me.

Froch also had this to say about Jean Pascal: “The fight is still on, definitely. I promised I would give him a return and I will but first I have to get the Super Six out of the way.”

Froch needs to forget about reliving the Pascal fight, because I don’t know of anyone that really cares one bit about seeing Froch face that guy again. Pascal was already exposed by Hopkins in his last fight, and Pascal will probably lose to Hopkins in their rematch in May. Will Froch still be want to fight Pascal after that? Maybe it will be a good fight for Froch after he gets beaten by Johnson or Ward, because with Pascal getting beaten by Hopkins, Pascal and Froch would be two beaten fighters going at it. Perhaps the winner could get his act together and make a comeback.

I doubt Froch will ever fight Pavlik, because there won’t be any point of them fighting after Johnson or Ward beat him and take his WBC title. And with Froch still talking about Pascal, it looks like he’ll fight him again after he comes back from the Super Six licking his wounds from a loss. I can see Pascal beating Froch as well at that point because Froch will have been softened up for him.
