Shaw says Bradley-Khan is basically a done deal

By Sean McDaniel: The Amir Khan vs. Timothy Bradley unification bout is pretty much a done deal for July, according to Gary Shaw, the promoter for Bradley. Khan first must win his next fight against EBU light welterweight champion Paul McCloskey on April 16th, and then we could have a big unification bout between Khan, the WBA Super World light welterweight champion and Bradley, the holder of the WBC/WBO light welterweight belts.

Bradley’s contract with Shaw will soon be ending, but he still has one fight left. Shaw intends on using that fight for the Khan bout, as long as Khan and Bradley can successfully negotiate the fight. Both fighters are interested in the match-up, and Khan really wants the fight so that he can prove he’s the best fighter in the division.

Khan plans on moving up in weight shortly after the Bradley fight to try and get bouts against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley. Both of those fighters will make much more money than a simple unification bout against Bradley or a rematch with Marcos Maidana.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any fighters in the light welterweight division that will bring in the kind of excitement that a fight between Khan and Mosley or Khan and Mayweather would. It doesn’t matter that Mosley is shot. It will still make more money than any of the fights that Khan could have at light welterweight.

In an article by Robert Morales at presstelegram.com, Shaw said “I went to Richard Schaefer’s office at Golden Boy. I believe that we have pretty much closed the deal. To me, that’s what really is important to discuss. Not my life or my contract with Timothy Bradley.”
