By Dave Lahr: If you look at Manny Pacquiao’s new hairstyle, you can’t help but notice the similarity to the 16-year-old Canadian singer Justin Bieber. Pacquiao was asked by a fan about his new hairstyle at Saturday’s Las Vegas press conference with Shane Mosley, and Pacquiao said “That’s a good question. I like it, but Bruce Lee is my idol.”

I’ve seen plenty of photos of Bruce Lee, but his hairstyle didn’t look like Pacquiao’s. The way that Pacquiao is wearing his hair now, he’s looking just like an older Justin Bieber. This is kind of amusing, but maybe is a way for Pacquiao to be more fan friendly for the Mosley fight.

The fight is going to receive a lot of advertising on CBS when they show three of the four Fight Camp 360 episodes to promote the May 7th Pacquiao/Mosley fight, and I suppose if Pacquiao is sporting a Bieber-like hairdo, he might be able to draw some of the younger teenage non-boxing fans to want to purchase the fight.

If so, it could be a smart move for Pacquiao to come out with the hair style right before this fight. The only thing Pacquiao needs to do now is learn how rap and he might be able to get even more people interested in the Mosley vs. Pacquiao fight.

Pacquiao might have been better off to say that he likes Bieber, because he could then be in good with Bieber’s followers and they might be more inclined to watch the Pacquiao-Mosley fight. You got to be thinking strategically.
