Image: Amir Khan to announce opponent within 24 hours – my thoughtsBy Ben James: Amir Khan is set to announce his next opponent within 24 hours and hold a press conference towards the end of the week. After watching Khans display of heart against Marcos Maidana last month I had high hopes for Khan, but the list of opponents that have been suggested so far is just pathetic. I know the man had a tough fight but that is no excuse to go ahead and fight somebody we all know he will beat without breaking a sweat, its just milking your popularity in the UK because you know that America would never pay to watch such pointless fights.

In my mind there are a limited number of fights people actually want to see Khan take part in… they are as follows:

Amir Khan vs Breidis Prescott

In my opinion this would be the biggest PPV fight that Khan could make in the UK right now. I have every faith that he would destroy and maybe even knock out Prescott but it would be great to see him avenge his only defeat like all the other great fighters try to do.

Amir Khan vs Timothy Bradley

Bradley has offered Khan this fight and I think Khan should take it and gain the home advantage in a fight which will no doubt go to the scorecards. Having the fight in the UK really could be the difference between “Amir Khan former world champion” and “Amir Khan undispited world champion”.

Amir Khan vs Marcos Maidana

Their first fight was without shadow of a doubt the best fight of 2010. As painful as it must have been to both fighters (just look at Maidana as he rolls around the floor at the end of the first round, saved by the bell), I think a rematch should be an option. Amir Khan clearly won the fight but it was pretty close, close enough to warrant a rematch.

Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook

I would personally love to see this fight, Kell is a great boxing talent and future world champion but everyone needs the chance to prove themselves. Khan has been given his chance and now it could be time for him to offer the same opportunity to another young fighter. Kell could beat Khan but he is untested. I have watched Kell Brook in the gym training and I have followed all of his fights, the man has not been tested. I could not tell you how he would deal with speed or power at the world level, I cant tell you if the kid has heart. Amir Khan would be a brilliant test for him.

Another reason I believe this fight should go ahead is that Kell Brooks career was put on hold for 4 years while Frank Warren focused all his time, attention and money into promoting Amir Khan and making Amir Khan a superstar. During this time Frank Warren kept Kell Brook on the back burner fighting bums and not getting the publicity somebody of his talent deserves.

Reality Check

Having said all that I think we can be 100% sure that Amir Khan will not take any of the fights I have suggested and that he will fight some pathetic nobody who we all know he will beat, milking his loyal fans to line his own greedy pockets.

Amir Khan has no loyalty to anybody. He stabbed Frank Warren in the back and is about to do the same to his fans, not to mention sacking of his strength and conditioning coach this week over a dispute about money.

The last brilliant British muslim star made the same mistakes with money and ego, go ask Prince Naseem Hamed how it worked out for him.
