Will Haye and Klitschko fight this year?

Image: Will Haye and Klitschko fight this year?By Dallan o’ Donnell: I am beginning to wonder if this fight will happen this year. Another long, drawn out saga, which mirrors Manny Pacquiao and Foyd Mayweather Jr. David Haye fighting a Klitschko is the only worthwhile fight in the heavyweight division yet fans are kept waiting with poorer match ups that are surely no contests.

Haye had claimed that everything was agreed from the money to the date but Wladimir has chosen to fight Dereck Chisora (His original opponent until he pulled out with injury) in April which makes a July date with Haye impossible according to the Hayemaker. The WBA are also forcing Haye to fight mandatory challenger Ruslan Chagaev or he will be stripped of his title.

It baffles me mainly because Haye could simply have fought Wladamir’s elder brother Vitali instead. But not to worry (If you are) this fight is going to happen. Haye will eventually fight Wladimir; it makes no commercial sense to fight each other so early when both can have two more pay days before they take the huge career risk of fighting each other.

Boxing is as much a business as a sport as we all know. However leaving it this long without fighting each other is, in my opinion a bigger risk. Fans can soon get disinterested and in anger not purchase the fight when it does happen. Are we that worried if it does or doesn’t happen anyway? A fight involving the Klitschko’s are never the most interesting to watch which is why HBO stopped showing their fights in America and David Hayes last fight against Audley Harrison is better left unmentioned. Interested or not hopefully the games and delays will stop sooner rather than later so they can finally fight to decide who the best heavyweight is.
