By Francisco Hernandez: As predicted by this writer, the Bradley vs. Alexander fight was a boring event. As I stated in a previous article, the only way this fight would turn out good is if Devon Alexander went for the knockout. Timothy Bradley has an ugly style of fighting and no punching power, but he is intelligent and knows how to take over a fight.
Devon Alexander doesn’t know how to control a fight, he is too inexperienced, and against intelligent fighters he is lost. The only way Alexander could beat Bradley was to go for the knockout. Alexander decided instead to play it safe, and the fight became just two people posturing in front of each other, with no real action.
The fight demonstrated that Devon Alexander despite all his natural talents is very vulnerable. I don’t believe he could withstand the savage assaults of Marcos Maidana. Amir Khan would easily control a fight against Alexander. Timothy Bradley on the other hand continues to be a dangerous opponent for any of the top junior welters. Bradley has that type of style that is called stinky, an unorthodox style of boxing. It is not fan friendly but it can win fights. Despite his lack of punching power and fundamental boxing skills, Bradley knows how to control a fight in his unorthodox way.
Marcos Maidana can make exciting matches with either Bradley or Alexander. They need Maidana to make fights worth seeing. A fight between Khan, Alexander, and Bradley is not worth seeing because it will be the same posturing. These three fighters (Khan, Bradley, Alexander) have boxing styles that are not fan friendly. It is only when you put them against bona fide brawlers like Maidana that they can be in exciting fights.
Bradley and Alexander are to be commended for fighting each other, as has been said before most boxers nowadays hide from the best opponents. Unfortunately both of them just like Amir Khan have no fire in their blood, that’s why you need men like Marcos Maidana to bring excitement to boxing.
