Arena, despite claims from Khan that Peterson had priced himself out for the fight by asking for too much money. It could be that they might have had second thoughts about the feather-fisted Peterson when they saw that many of the alternatives, such as Lucas Matthysse, Breidis Prescott and Michael Katsidis, have a lot of power and are a real threat to knocking Khan out instead of just serving as an opponent for Khan to look against and pad his record for an easy money fight in front of his British fans in the UK.

Peterson isn’t the only name that’s still being consider for Khan. There’s also the unbeaten European Boxing Union (EBU) lightweight champion John Murray (30-0, 18 KO’s) that’s being considered and EBU light welterweight champion Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12 KO’s), Both of those fighters are from the UK, and both are slow and not much of a threat to Khan’s weak chin because they don’t have a lot of power. Those are fights that would be strictly good for the UK only, because no one other than diehard boxing fans have heard of those fighters in the U.S., and they’re not considered future champions on the world scene.

Those wouldn’t be good choices if HBO is going to be showing Khan’s fight to American audiences. However, Peterson is just as a bad choice as those guys, because Peterson was already batted around in a one-sided loss to Timothy Bradley in December 2009, and is extremely not to have been beaten a year later in December in his fight with Victor Ortiz. Peterson got a 10 round draw in that fight, but many people, HBO and this writer included, who saw Peterson getting beaten in that fight. If Khan chooses Peterson, it will be like he’s facing someone coming off of a 2-knockdown loss, because Ortiz had Peterson down twice.
