Is Alex Ariza really a spokesperson for Pacquiao?

By Allen Hmiel: How many people really have the authority to speak for Manny Pacquiao? I know Freddy Roach and Bob Arum in their roles have strong opinions on boxing related matters but more and more I see Alex Ariza commenting on Manny also. Isn’t Ariza a physical trainer and a dietitian period? a cook who plans healthy meals for Manny? A guy who does the sit-ups counting and times the runs? Since when, I don’t ever remember this happening before when someone not really related to the sport from a boxing knowledge basis is commenting on the strategies and styles of various opponents and his own trainee Manny. Ariza is quoted way to much and has too many opinions on all the fighters currently out there ready to face Manny. Ariza has more scraps and verbal confrontations outside the ring than Manny has inside of it. Ariza is a conditioner.

I just wonder how Freddy and Bob Arum feel about a guy who only conditions the fighter and plans the diet has acted as a spokesperson for the Pacquiao camp? How does Manny feel about a personal trainer commenting on his opponents and upcoming fights? Freddy Roach earned his right to analyze fighters, styles and boxing topics and Bob Arum’s long record as a promoter speaks for itself.
I am just bewildered as many others are why a calorie counter and push up guy Ariza is getting involved in the topics of match making-boxing styles and boxing strategies. Too many words and ideas come from the Pacquiao camp from too many different sources and I think this hurts the credibility and validity of what is actually being said by Manny.

Shouldn’t Manny speak for himself or let Freddy do it? I would harness and muzzle the physical trainer/cook Ariza and bring more of a sense of professionalism to the Pacquiao organization. Each member of the Paq entourage should have their defined role and only a chosen few(Roach and Arum) should speak for the champion. Let Roach train, Arum Promote and Ariza condition only. Funny how fame and prestige raises the levels of publicity seeking individuals who otherwise would go unnoticed. It is Manny who is great and the champion let him speak for himself.
