By Allen Hmiel: The farce is about to end and the smoke and mirrors career of the British fighter Amir Khan is about over. Never has Khan been looked upon as a granite chinned champion with superior skills and power who would rule any weight division.
Put to sleep dramatically early in his career, Khan has never regained much prestige or presence in boxing circle’s as a true warrior with championship longevity in mind. Khan has always appeared tentative and cautious in the ring careful not to expose the crystal chin and weak frame to much punishment. Carefully matched and well trained by Roach, Amir has been fortunate that he hasn’t really been snuffed out and stretched terribly again by a hard hitting opponent.
Amir is nothing more than another version of no hit Paulie Malignaggi with a little harder punch but not by much. The great training by Roach cannot hide the apparent weaknesses of Khan’s open defense and glass jaw. Even Roach stated he thought Khan was done in the tenth round against the very average Marcos Maidana and had thoughts of stopping the fight and saving the wobbly slinky like Khan from collapsing somewhere in the ring. Khan fought Maidana backing up and running most of the fight not in a style of a great champion.
Boxing greats do not back peddle most of the their championship bouts and hang on to survive from being KO’d and destroyed. Yes Khan somehow won a debatable points decision against the Argentinian average fighter.
Now we are going to see Khan carefully and wisely matched up by Roach and Golden Boy Promotions with the very non-dangerous light hitting opponent in Lamont Peterson. Roach realizes that he has a very fragile faced fighter in Khan with a weak defense and no knockout power. How long can this charade last with Roach protecting Khan with weak opponents and Khan’s jaw inviting every guy with a punch to meet with the fragile chin of the British Muslim warrior.
Khan will beat the poorly skilled no punching Peterson but how many more times can the crafty planning by Roach and Arum continue to match Khan with very weak non dangerous opponents. I see future match-ups for Khan against the British farce Matthew Hatton and possibly the recently Ko’d little Michael Katsidis and Junior Witter and KO Prescott for another possible encore knockout of the fragile-chinned Khan.
Fighting in England will also help Khan with his delusional deceptive masquerade as a legitimate champion. Even the greatness of Freddie Roach and the intelligent protective match making by his astute Golden Boy promoters will not be able to protect Khan from the inevitable KO’s coming his way and career ending down slide as an exposed weak chinned fighter.
