By Dave Lahr: Nonito Donaire (25-1, 17 KO’s) has got it in his head that he can stop WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel (44-2-2, 34 KO’s_ when they meet up on February 19th at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Somebody has obviously been putting crazy ideas onto Donaire’s head, because he’s not going to be knocking anyone out. Its going to be a sad night for Donaire and his flock of admirers.

If anyone is getting knocked out, it’s going to be Donaire, because Montiel is the biggest puncher by far in the bantamweight division, while Donaire is one of those hit and run type fighters that can only punch well when he loads up on his shots. I hope Donaire does try and punch with Montiel because it will make for a much shorter fight and make for a nice gruesome knockout when Montiel catches Donaire with one of his big right hands and send him falling face first to the canvas.

Donaire had this to say about his fight with Montiel: “It will not go 12 rounds. I have power. He has power. I want to win by knockout. He wants to win by knockout.”

Donaire may want to win by a knockout but he’s going to be wondering what hit him when Montiel connects. That’s what’s so great about Montiel. He seems like a nice guy and he’ll be doing nothing for awhile until he connects, and then it’s all over. Montiel is going to leave Donaire on the canvas like a bunch of wreckage. This is going to be ugly and brutal.
