Image: Bradley wants Pacquiao bout, will have to face Khan first to prove he deserves itBy Dan Ambrose: WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (27-0, 11 KO’s) earned a 10 round technical decision win over WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander (21-1, 13 KO’s) last Saturday night in an excruciatingly boring fight to watch at the Silverdome, in Pontiac, Michigan. Alexander looked like he quit on the fight after a clash of heads. It didn’t matter whether he officially quit or was really hurt, he was going to lose the fight anyway and looked totally confused and clueless what to do in there.

After the bout, Bradley said “That’s where the key is right now, Manny Pacquaio.” Bradley, if given his preference, would like to fight Pacquiao next and get a nice payday. Unfortunately, Bradley failed to shine in the Alexander fight and will have to beat WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan next to prove that he deserves to be put in with Pacquiao. Even if Bradley beats Khan, he’s got to look a lot better than he did against Alexander to get a fight with Manny.

It’s safe to say that Bradley didn’t win any new fans with his performance against Alexander. The problem for Bradley is that he lacked punching power, and his speed didn’t look impressive. On the inside, Bradley did a lot of holding, wrestling and lunging with his punches. Overall, Bradley looked sluggish and lacked accuracy with his shots. To be sure, Bradley is probably good enough to win a decision over Khan, but if he looks as bad as he did against Alexander, it will hardly matter.

Bradley won’t get a fight with Pacquiao if he stinks up the joint against Khan. Bradley is too slow, and because of his short arms, he comes in head first often to try and land his shots. It’s not pretty to watch and it wouldn’t make for good television, whether it be on CBS/Showtime or HBO. Bradley’s fighting style is ugly to watch and Pacquiao can find a lot better options for exciting fights than him right now.
