By Allen Hmiel: Andre Ward has done everything right in boxing and in life. He has represented his country in the Olympics and brought home the gold medal for the USA. He has worked hard is clean cut and never been in trouble. A married man and father dedicated to his family and a Christian clean living representative of America. Andre has done everything correctly in boxing and in life but yet remains virtually an unknown un-respected unloved and under-appreciated boxer and man. Articulate and well groomed Andre presents himself extremely well and is humble and proud of his country and his heritage and his accomplishments in and out of the ring. What has he done wrong? Where most of America doesn’t know who he is or cares what he does?
Andre Ward seems to be hampered really handcuffed and curtailed by his lifestyle and work ethic and clean style of living. Should Andre do more to get attention should he become belligerent? Maybe curse more and brag and shout and talk smack about how great he is? Maybe Andre should get arrested to get attention and make people stand up and notice who he is. Ward is an undefeated world champion a Gold Medalist and an unknown. It is amazing that hard work and an unblemished boxing record and clean living alone doesn’t make you a media darling and world wide recognized figure and role model. Every kid in America should idolize Andre Ward and admire what he has accomplished against all odds. It’s funny that Andre will maybe never be really known in his own country and given credit for the things he has accumulated.
People, the fans are hard to please and sometimes the great fighters and human beings, such as Andre could go their whole career basically a phantom, an invisible superstar walking unrecognized and under appreciated in their own backyards. Wake up America, you have a class act, a world champion and a perfect role model going to waste and under appreciated for what he has done for his country, his family and for boxing. Andre Ward is what a champion should be.
