Should Arum sell Pacquiao-Mosley at a steep discount given Mosley’s deteriorated skills?

Image: Should Arum sell Pacquiao-Mosley at a steep discount given Mosley's deteriorated skills?By Chris Williams: Being a big fans of boxing I’m more than a little put off by the upcoming May 7th bout between Manny Pacquiao and 39-year-old Shane Mosley. It’s a decent little mismatch that I think would be right at home on the undercard of an ESPN Friday Night Fight card, but certainly not the main event of what will very likely be a $50+ pay-per-view card on the 5/7 at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Thus far, the only fight that’s been confirmed for the undercard is the rematch between Humberto Soto and Urbano Antillon.

Frankly, I see that as being the fight that should be the main event here because it actually promises an exciting fight unless Antillon is too depleted from the last war these two guys fought. But, I don’t see that fight as being worth $50, and the Mosley fight is not even worth $5 in my view. I already saw Pacquiao finish fighting two easy guys with Antonio Margarito and Joshua Clottey. Why is Pacquiao being matched against some old guy that clearly is on his last legs? I think Arum is hurting the sport with this kind of match-making.

It looks like he’s sacrificing quality just to get a named fighter to make a little more money. Good god, there’s got to be someone out there that Arum could have put Pacquiao in with that would actually put on a good fight for the boxing public. I would pay to see Pacquiao fight Juan Manuel Marquez or Andre Berto. I won’t pay $50 to see him beat up on a fighter nearly 40-years-old. This is three consecutive easy fights for Pacquiao. When is Arum going to break the streak? Is is it going to be nothing but easy fights until Pacquiao retires?

I’m actually starting to look forward to him retiring because at least whoever takes over as the next cash cow, we’ll at least have the chance we can see some exiting match-ups instead of fights against old faded fighters or bouts against guys that just happen to be in the same stable and need a fight.
