Image: Pacquiao vs. Mosley fight, the only alternative if Floyd is not availableBy Juan dela Cruz: Many boxing fans got dismayed when Bob Arum, Top Rank big boss, announced that Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao will more likely be facing Sugar Shane Mosley rather than Juan Manuel Marquez nor Andre Berto on April 16, 2011 at the MGM Grand. It’s just logical to have Mosley face Pacman instead of Marquez or Berto, if Floyd will remain unavailable by that time.

Mosley had a huge fan base in the US and is known to casual and hardcore boxing fans. He is also a big PPV draw and his fight with Pacman can draw even bigger sales and gate attendance. On skills, Mosley is second to Floyd and there is no doubt about that. We might say he’s already going to 40, but I think he still got it to give Pacquiao some problems in the ring, making their fight more interesting. Besides, Mosley and Pacquiao will be preparing hard for this fight knowing a lot of people will be watching, expecting war on the ring and real entertainment.

But what about Marquez and Berto? Marquez is a good fighter, skilled and talented, but at lightweight. If he is going to fight Pacman in higher weight, he will be lucky to last for 2 rounds. He will be humiliated and might suffer the worst beating of his life. He is simply no match against Pac. If people are saying Marquez got Pacquiao’s number the last time they fought, well, that can be but not now when Pacquiao had already morphed into perfect fighting machine, two-fisted, talented, heavier, quicker and more powerful warrior. Pacquiao will turn Marquez into a bloody mess, his face will be rearranged that even his wife will not be able to recognize him, busted lips, cracked orbital and cheek bone, both eyes swollen, and might end up paralyzed. I pity him very much he should not fight Pacquiao and I pray that Manny will be kind enough not to give Marquez his death wish.

Aside from that, I just don’t get it when Marquez demanded 50-50 purse split against Pac. What???? Yeah, that’s right. Marquez wants equal share of the pie. That made Arum got turned off. How the hell can Marquez even think of getting equal share where in fact, in his last fight, with Berto on the undercard, there were only 4,920 spectators in attendance? His pee might already have entered his brain and caused some irreparable damage. I really pity this guy. He even keeps on boasting that he won both fights against Manny. If that is true, why fight Manny again for the third time? What does he got to prove if he beat Pacquiao twice? Hmmm…. the truth is, he just want a big payday before he retires.

Berto is one of those being considered by Arum, but unfortunately, Berto have not proven anything yet that will merit Pacquiao’s attention. He can’t even sell a ticket for his fight in his own turf. He knocks his opponent, yes, but they are not known and therefore it says nothing about Andre. He had never been tested against skilled fighter, and worse, he has no fan base yet, his name doesn’t even ring a bell among hardcore boxing fans. I believe he still got a lot of time to go and prove his worth. All he has to do is fight bigger named fighters, earn millions of followers, and after that, he could submit his resuḿe to Pacquiao for consideration.

Manny still have three years before he retires, and that period is enough for Berto and Marquez to prove their worth. They can even face each other for an undercard of the Pacquiao-Mosley fight and the winner will face Manny or Mosley whoever wins in their fight. They should not loose hope, all they have to do is to line up and wait for their turn, but of course they should have something in their resuḿe that will qualify them for the lottery. But for now, it will be Mosley’s turn.
