By Dave Lahr: I’m really hoping that Manny Pacquiao takes a royal beating and gets knocked cold by 39-year-old Shane Mosley next April, because that’s who Pacquiao is probably going to be facing, not someone who’s actually any good. But it will be so funny. Here Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum go to the trouble to find a beatable easy mark in the fading Mosley, and then if he turns around and scores a shock knock out, I’ll die laughing. That will serve them right. You pick an old, counting on an easy win like the other drained opponents, and then he knocks you out. This would be priceless.
They could have picked a fighter at top of his game like Andre Berto or Juan Manuel Marquez, but when they go ahead pick Mosley, it’s going to be funny if the guy somehow pulls out a win. While there still hasn’t been any mention of a catch weight handicap for Pacquiao in this fight, I betcha that if Mosley suddenly starts looking good in training, a strength draining catch weight will be soon to follow. That, too, will be hilarious and classic.
And if weight drained Mosley can still come into the ring and score a nice knockout over Pacquiao, I’ll be gloating and as happy as a lark. I don’t like cherry picking opponents and I especially don’t like catch weight handicaps. There still hasn’t been anything said of a catch weight handicap needed for Pacquiao in this specific fight. I suppose Mosley being as old as heck is enough of a handicap for Pacquiao to win this one, but still, it’s going to be fun to watch if Mosley somehow can blitz the little Filipino in the early rounds and take him out before Mosley’s horrible stamina starts affecting him.
