Pacquiao’s Perfect Size

By Leonard Hart: One week after Manny Pacquiao won a 154 pound belt by way of a total destruction of Antonio Margarito, one Sergio Martinez knocked out the much feared Paul Williams in the 2nd round. Martinez had just given up the belt that the Pacquiao-Margarito bout was for.

Naturally many fans wanted to see a Pacquiao-Martinez fight. However, Pacquiao and his camp immediately shot down those hopes complaining Manny is only human and is just too small to fight Martinez. The interesting thing is that Martinez is actually smaller than Margarito. Which makes clear Martinez’s size may be one factor, but the major factor is his skills in the ring. A fighter that is smaller than his last opponent is somehow too big for Manny.

Manny and his fans have been lauding over the past couple years how Manny is so small that his wins over welterweights are so impressive. That Manny has to pump thousands upon thousands of calories into his body every single day just to stay above 140 pounds. This is why Manny could not fight Cotto at the welterweight limit of 147 but made Cotto shave off two pounds of muscle to fight him. Then after his win against the glorified journeyman Joshua Clottey, it was so impressive because Pacquiao had no business fighting at welterweight because it took such an effort just to weigh over 140 pounds for him. Than Manny fought Margarito and his fans went wild that such a small man beat someone so much bigger. Yet, as soon as a talented fighter that is smaller than Margarito issued a challenge to Pacquiao, Manny, his team, and his fans insist he is too small. This makes no sense though because Martinez is smaller than Margarito. Effectively, Pacquiao, Arum, and Manny’s fans admit Margarito was not a good fighter and known to be a joke from the beginning, otherwise the fight never would have taken place because Manny and his fans would have insisted he was too small.

So, Martinez was quickly dismissed because he was big AND had something resembling talent. Well, the guy many believe beat Pacquiao twice scored a decisive knockout victory of his own one week after Martinez. This Juan Manuel Marquez then began lobbying for a fight with Manny. However, Marquez is best at 135 and appeared sluggish and slow at his only fight above 140 pounds against Floyd Mayweather Jr. This seemed perfect, Manny and his fans have been saying over and over again how Manny is not even a welterweight and struggles to gain enough weight to fight there and likewise Marquez is best below 147. Let’s finish the trilogy at 140. But, nope, Roach and Pacquiao and Pac-man’s fans now insist Manny is a welterweight and will not fight below 147. If Pacquiao ever fights Marquez again it will be at 147.

There you have it, Pacquiao is too small to face the best welterweights at the welterweight limit and too big to fight the best at 135 or 140 at any weight below 147. Manny Pacquiao is the perfect size, too small for the best at 147 or higher and too big for the best at 140 and 135.
