Mosley: Pacquiao’s defense isn’t as good as Mayweather’s – I’m going to knock him out

By Jason Kim: Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has been skillfully matching him against old beatable fighters, ones that have been beaten up and less known fighters from his Top Rank stable in the past couple of years. Now he’s matched up Pacquiao with a fighter that pretty much the entire boxing world thinks is shot with 39-year-old Shane Mosley in a bout that takes place on May 7th. Mosley knows what he’s capable of and doesn’t see himself as being a shot fighter. We’ll see soon enough, but Mosley is thinks he sees a lot of vulnerability in Pacquiao’s style of fighting, and he thinks he can expose that vulnerability and knock Pacquiao out.

Speaking with Dan Rafael of ESPN, Mosley said “I’m a bigger guy than him [Pacquiao] and he gets hit. And you saw how I hurt Floyd. Manny is going to come forward and I will hit him on the chin at some point. His defense is not like Floyd’s Manny will come at me and I will knock him out.”

Mosley, 5’9″, will have a two one half height advantage over Pacquiao in this fight. In the past, Mosley has generally beaten most of the fighters that he’s been bigger than with the exception of Miguel Cotto and Mayweather. Many people thought Mosley did more than enough to beat Cotto, who was running from Mosley in the past four rounds of the fight and just looking to survive. Pacquiao is a fighter that used to come and trade shots much of the time. Now he’s someone that hits and moves away, and doesn’t stick around long enough to get hit all that much. Mosley will have to be fast enough to hit Pacquiao when he comes at him and then be able to chase him around to force him to fight. Mosley’s legs and stamina might not be up to the task of going after Pacquiao for 12 long rounds.
