Miguel Buendia, 135 Pounds of Violence

By Francisco Hernandez: Lightweight prospect Miguel Buendia is 135 pounds of unbridled explosive action. In the ring he shuffles forward bobbing and weaving, until he tears into his opponents bodies and rips them apart. His relentless style of fighting has endeared Miguel Buendia to the boxing fans in the Dallas Fort Worth Area. Miguel is a two time Fort Worth Golden Glove champion and he has been a professional boxer for two years now. In his last fight he destroyed the tough Eddie Ramirez in Laredo, Texas, knocking Ramirez out in the fifth round.

One fight that fans want to watch in the DFW area is a matchup between Miguel Buendia and fellow Fort Worth fighter Arthur Trevino. Arthur Trevino also in the lightweight division has more experience and likes to war recklessly in his fights, not taking a step back, but what Miguel Buendia lacks in experience he makes up with an indomitable will to destroy his opponents, in fact Miguel knocked out the very fighter who defeated Arthur Trevino twice, Eddie Ramirez. Paulie Ayala, retired and former bantamweight champion, who is now promoting fights in DFW, should consider making this fight. This should be a successful promotion because these fighters have a good following, they are from the same City, and they are both brawlers who don’t like to take a step back. Arthur Trevino comes from a boxing family, his father and uncles were all boxers (Roger, Arthur) and well known in Fort Worth.

One of the problems with boxing today is that people have become so focused on HBO, Showtime, and Pay per View fights that they forget that local fights can be just as exciting as any high media show. Paulie Ayala should take note of this and try to promote a fight between Miguel Buendia and Arthur Trevino; this should be a great event in Fort Worth, Texas for boxing fans.

If Paulie Ayala ever makes this fight happen, I pick Miguel Buendia to win by knockout in the middle rounds. Miguel is a professional athlete; he was a track star in middle school and high school, and outstanding athlete in other sports. There is not a day when Miguel is not in top shape. Although he didn’t get involved in competitive boxing until his mid twenties, Miguel has trained as a boxer since a young child, at home with his uncles and father, later in Fort Worth gyms. Until he decided to compete, trained by his brother. Miguel reminds me of a Sergio Martinez who is also a superb athlete and who entered Boxing when he was in his early twenties, or Wilfredo Vasquez junior, who began boxing in his twenties, never fought either in the Amateurs or professionals until he lost his job and decided to box for a living, he is now the super bantamweight champion of the world.

Arthur Trevino will want to inflict pain and violence on Miguel, but Arthur will be facing off against a man who is stronger than him, who is in better shape than him, and who can easily destroy a fighter who doesn’t run away from him. Arthur doesn’t know how to run or take a step back and that will make it a great exciting fight. Miguel will rip Arthur with body shots that will take their toll in the middle rounds, where Miguel will lift Arthur off the canvas with an uppercut to the gut, knocking the air out of him, and knocking Arthur Trevino out.

Miguel Buendia shows great promise in taking the mantle from Paulie Ayala in becoming the next World Champion out of Fort Worth, Texas.
