Why does Haye want Chisora to beat Wladimir Klitschko?

Image: Why does Haye want Chisora to beat Wladimir Klitschko?By William Mackay: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) had a chance to fight Wladimir Klitschko recently, but the two of them were unable to agree to the terms for a fight. Wladimir instead will be fighting little known Dereck Chisora (14-0, 9 KO’s) on December 11th in Germany, while Haye has agreed to fight 39-year-old former 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist Audley Harrison for a big payday on November 13th at the M.E.N. Arena, in Manchester, England. Haye, for some reason, is hoping that Chisora beats Wladimir next month.

Why Haye would want this to happen is beyond me, because if Chisora beats Wladimir, that will remove pretty much any chance there is for a big money future fight between Haye and Wladimir. The interest in a Haye vs. Wladimir fight would be dead in the water, because Wladimir would need to try and avenge the loss to Chisora, and that would take up valuable time and with Haye set to retire by the end of 2011, the chances are probably slim that Haye and Wladimir would hook up for a fight. If they did, the fight would make a lot less money than it would have made originally had they fought before Wladimir’s loss to Chisora.

In an article at the Dailymail.co.uk, Haye said “Of course I’ll be supporting him [Chisora in his fight against Wladimir]. He’s a fellow Brit and it would be nice for him to do it.”

Wow! Does Haye know what he’s wishing for here? He’s basically wishing that the Klitschko fight, which would make him over $10 million easily, does down the drain. This makes me think that Haye really doesn’t want the fight or else he’s deathly afraid of Wladimir and is just hoping someone else picks him off so that he doesn’t have to fight him. In contrast, Wladimir was recently begging Haye not to get knocked out by Harrison on November 13th.

Wladimir is pulling for Haye because he doesn’t want to lose out on the big payday, but Haye is doing to opposite. I don’t know how else to ready Haye’s behavior other than him not wanting to fight Wladimir and hopes that someone else will take him out so that the pressure is off.

Unfortunately, Chisora, 6’1″, has almost zero chance at beating Wladimir. He’s too short and slow to do much other than getting knocked out quickly. Chisora needs more experience and even with the experience, he still seems lacking in the talent needed to beat Wladimir.
