Image: Prediction: Look for Khan to crumble against Maidana within three roundsBy William Mackay: With only one fight under his belt against a big puncher Breidis Prescott during his five-year pro career, WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) will be facing an even harder puncher in Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) on December 11th at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. I wish I could say that I see this fight going good for Khan, but I don’t think it will. To judge how Khan will do against Maidana, one much look at his fight against a similar opponent Prescott. Khan was blown out of the water in a 1st round knockout loss against Prescott in 2008.

I doubt Khan will make the same mistake of going out and trying to mix it up with Maidana the way that he did with Prescott. Khan won’t make the same mistake again now that he’s trained by Freddie Roach. Khan is going to be moving constantly, dancing around in wide circles the same way that Manny Pacquiao was in the later rounds against Antonio Margarito. Roach is going to give Khan marching orders to keep him as far away from Maidana’s sledgehammer blows as possible.

However, even when a fighter is running around the ring, they still get hit. As you saw with Pacquiao, he was still getting clipped hard three or four times per round with Margarito. And that was a fight in which Pacquiao was the harder puncher. But Khan won’t have that advantage. He has a weaker chin, so those three to four huge shots that Maidana catches him with each round is going to have him in deep trouble. I don’t think Khan will make it past three. Once Maidana tags him with a huge shot, the fight will be over. Khan was staggered by a jab from Prescott, and he’s going to be getting hit with much bigger punches than from Maidana on December 11th.
