Froch to try and keep Abraham on the outside using his jab

By Sean McDaniel: Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) faces a tough fight on Saturday night against Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) in Finland in the 3rd stage of the Super Six tournament. Froch, 33, is guaranteed a place in the semifinals of the tournament, so the pressure is off for him in a way.

However, Froch hates to lose and wants to win back his lost WBC super middleweight title which he lost in his last fight against Mikkel Kessler. The belt will be up for grabs for this fight, and that’s something that Froch is very pleased about.

In an article at the Mirror.co.uk, Froch says “Height is in my favour. Abraham is shorter than me so if I will try to keep him on the end of my jab. If I do this, I believe I will be crowned champion again.”

Froch needs to realize that he’s going to need more than a good jab to beat Abraham. He has a way of coming forward and making a jab irrelevant. Froch is going to need a good chin, and he’s going to need to out-punch Abraham because he’s going to be getting hit with some big shots in this fight.

Having a good chin is a requirement to beat Abraham. Froch, 6’1″, only has a three inch height advantage over the 5’10” and a 2 inch reach advantage. Froch isn’t going to beat Abraham based on reach and height. It’s going to take defense and a great chin to win this fight, and Froch is going to have to work harder in those areas to get the win on Saturday.

Abraham can be out-worked, but he has a way of making up for his low workrate by throwing huge shots and knocking out his opponents. Froch has a great chin, but Abraham can really punch. Even Froch may not be able to take the kind of shots that Abraham will be throwing on Saturday.
