Image: Froch thinks Abraham’s power is overratedBy Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC super-middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) isn’t impressed with the punching power of his next Super Six tournament opponent Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s), who Froch will be facing on November 27th at the Hartwall Arena, in Helsinki, Finland.

Perhaps Froch isn’t impressed with Abraham’s power because he’s envious of the mostly positive press that Abraham has received about his punching power. Froch hits hard, but Abraham is clearly in a different class than him and I expect Froch to realize that early on in their fight when Abraham starts tagging him with big shots.

Froch had this to say in his recent press conference with Abraham: “I’m not concerned when people say that Arthur’s the biggest puncher I’ve faced. I think his power is overrated, especially at super middleweight.”

Abraham looks to be the biggest puncher in the super-middleweight division right now, and it doesn’t matter that he’s only 5’10” and not as tall as the 6’2” Froch. He punches like a mule regardless of how short he is. Froch likes to point out Abraham’s lack of size in the division, but I think Froch is doesn’t realize that a fighter doesn’t have to be tall to be a huge puncher.

Look at Julian Jackson, a junior middleweight with tremendous punching power. He was only 5’10”, and yet he had one punch knockout power that Froch could only dream of having. Some fighters naturally punch harder than their weight class. I think Abraham is one of them. I think Abraham has got the kind of power that would carry all the way to the cruiserweight division. I could see Abraham and Marco Huck being a competitive fight despite Abraham being a lot smaller.

I think Froch is going to be in for a big shock when he steps in the ring with Abraham and finds out how hard he hits. The problem for Froch is that by the time he finds out it’s probably going to be too late for him to make any kinds of adjustments. He’ll be either flat on his back or face down on the canvas counting stars.

Abraham has hurt both of his Super Six tournament opponents and knocked them out of the tournament with his power. Abraham was unable to hit the blazing fast Andre Dirrell until he slipped on the canvas, which allowed Abraham to tell off on him with a big shot.

However, Abraham won’t have any problems connecting with Froch’s head because he’s going to be standing in front of him with his guard down just begging to be put out of his misery.
