Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) is willing to do anything he needs to in order to win his WBC title back against Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) on Saturday night in Helsinki, Finland. Froch, 33, lost his title in his last fight to Mikkel Kessler and says he feels naked without the strap. He wants the title back, but he’s got to go through Abraham in order to get it. That may be a tall order for Froch, because he’s the type of fighter that Abraham has traditionally always done good against. Froch likes to wade forward with his hands down by his sides trading big power shots.

That’s the kind of fight that Abraham will take any day of the week because he tends to block most of the shots thrown his way with his high guard and he’s capable of taking anyone out with a single shot. Abraham has classic one-punch knockout power in his right hand and he’s a big puncher with his left as well.

In an article at the guardian.co.uk, Froch says “I go into every fight to win. If that means throwing bombs and breaking ribs then, yeah, I’ll do everything I can to win my belt back. I come into the fight with self-belief and confidence. I plan to win this belt back. I don’t think it should never ever been taken away in the first place. I predict I’m going to win by any means necessary.”

Hopefully, Froch doesn’t blow a gasket and start throwing throwing rabbit shots, holding and hitting and body slamming Abraham like Froch did with the talented Andre Dirrell last year. Froch could end up losing points or getting disqualified if he has a mental meltdown and starts fouling for all he’s worth. The guy has got to keep it together if he wants to beat Abraham. Sure, Abraham can sometimes throw a mean elbow every once in awhile, but it’s no reason to lose it entirely and start throwing rabbit shots. If I’m Froch, I’ll keep it clean, try to box and stay as far away from Abraham’s right hand as possible. If Froch does this, he might just win. I doubt it, though. I see Froch being Froch, and falling into his old pattern of using his head to block punches and getting clocked by Abraham. I hope they have a big stretcher at ringside.
