By Daniel Tagg: After Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. retire, who will be the next superstar to dominate boxing and become a legend? Some people think WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan is a candidate. I really don’t think he has a good chance. Nor do I see much in James DeGale. What makes a champion of world class and legendary status? What does that man needs to succeed?

They will need to have a resistance to pain. Most great fighters have been through wars in the ring and would not have finished the fight if they weren’t toughened to the pain of fighting. Having a good chin is also needed to succeed against the best opposition. Some fighters can be can be classed as great and avoid the best fighters in the world and yet remain in the public consciousness as great. Although they really are duckers that aren’t great but just world class.

Good gym work is paramount to fighting great. If you don’t train wel,l then you don’t fight well. Speed and power are two things that will give the fighter a great advantage against there opponent. If the opponent is also great the it will be a tough fight.

Ring craft and foot work enable the fighter to position himself to his advantage and to the disadvantage of the opponent. Thus evading punches and granting him access to throw his most effective punches.

Below is a short list of potential fighters who can fill the void left by Manny and Floyd. Judge for your self’ who if any will be the next great champion of the world.

Here is a list of maybes:

Andre Berto
Devon Alexander
Andre Ward
Marcos Maidana
vVacheslav Senchenko
Jan Zaveck
