Image: Pacquiao looks good against small sparring partners at the Wild Card Gym in LABy Chris Williams: After struggling against his bigger sparring partners Glen Tapia, Michael Medina and Amir Khan in the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao is suddenly looking now that he’s shifted his training over the Wild Card Gym, in Los Angeles, CA. Pacquiao, 31, is now sparring with smaller sparring partners David Rodela and Raymind Beltran, and doing much better.

This isn’t a good sign for Pacquiao into his November 13th fight against the 5’11” Antonio Margarito. If Pacquiao is struggling against the bigger sparring partners and doing well against the smaller ones, it suggests that the 5’6” Pacquiao may not have enough size to run over Margarito the way that Pacquiao has been doing against the small Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto, both only 5’7”, and the weight drained Oscar De La Hoya.

Joshua Clottey, who Pacquiao beat in March by a 12 round decision, is only 5’8”, and another short welterweight. If you really look at who Pacquiao has been beating in the past two years, he really hasn’t beaten any big fighters like Margarito and that would explain why Pacquiao is struggling against the B level sparring partners that he’s been in with.

I’d say Margarito is a lot better than Medina and Tapia, and much more rugged and powerful than the smaller, skinnier Khan. I think Pacquiao could be in for big trouble on November 13th with the size of Margarito. We could see Pacquiao beaten up like he was in his first fight with Erik Morales before Morales began to have weight problems in their subsequent rematches.
