Froch says the loss to Kessler has given him “even more confidence” for Abraham

By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) had a unique spin to put on his recent defeat in the Super Six tournament to Mikkel Kessler. Instead of looking at it as a sign of there being problems in his game that needs big time fixing, Froch had this to say in an article at the Sundaymercury.net: “[Arthur] Abraham has been declaring that the Kessler fight has deeply affected me. He’s right. It has given me even more confidence! With late cancellations and a last minute flight under a volcanic ash cloud, I stepped into the lion’s den in front of 12,000 crazy Vikings and punched holes in their hero for 12 solid rounds. I was unlucky not to get the nod – but I’ve proved I’m world class on any stage, home or away.”

This sounds like Froch is in denial about his loss to Kessler. Froch needs to look at the loss to Kessler as a signal that Froch needs to change some things with his game. He needs to learn from the fight, adapt and come back with a different strategy and whole new weapons. What he’s been doing isn’t really working.

Froch lost to Kessler, and a lot of boxing fans, including this writer, saw Froch losing to Dirrell in his first fight in the Super Six tournament last year. Froch struggled badly against Jermain Taylor last year, and was knocked down and needed a knockout in the last seconds of the fight in the 12th round to get a win over Taylor in that fight.

This is all a sign that what Froch is doing needs to be changed. The guy needs to learn somehow and come in with a different look. Unless he changes his game, I see Froch getting knocked cold by his next Super Six tournament opponent Abraham on November 27th, in Helsinki, Finland. Froch wasn’t punching holes in Kessler, as he says. Sure, he was hitting Kessler, but he was getting badly hammered by him much of the time. The way Froch tells it, he was battering Kessler all night instead of absorbing punishment himself.

Froch needs the win over Abraham to make it to the semifinals of the Super Six tournament. As of now, he has one win, his controversial 12 round decision over Dirrell, and one loss from his defeat at the hands of Kessler in April of this year.

I think Froch won’t change a thing in his game for the Abraham fight and will march into the bout with his hands hanging down by his sides as they always are and he’ll get his head taken off by Abraham. I think Froch believes he really did win the Kessler fight, and that’s sad because few others agree with Froch. It means he’ll make all the same mistakes in that fight all over again in the Abraham bout, and likely end up getting drilled to pieces by the Armenian knockout artist.
