Froch-Abraham: Can Carl make it through 12 rounds of power punches from Arthur?

By Scott Gilfoid: When you look at Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) and notice how easy he is to hit, it doesn’t give you a good feeling about his chances against Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) on November 27th in their stage 3 Super Six bout in Helsinki, Finland. Abraham maybe a basic fighter with only average boxing skills, but he can punch incredibly hard and does well against European types like Froch. This is like a dream come true for Abraham, who has a lot to make up for due to his last fight against Andre Dirrell. Abraham lost that fight and needs to do a lot better in this fight if he wants to get the win.

Luckily for Abraham, Froch isn’t nearly as skilled as Dirrell, and isn’t blessed with his hand speed and talent. Abraham is going to be able to find a home for his big right hands and left hooks on Froch’s head unless he revamps his defense entirely before November 27th. This is a fundamental problem for Froch. He’s got to do something about his shoddy defense. He’s always concerned with his offense, as if he’s going to be able to take everyone out, but the problem is Froch doesn’t have the hand speed to connect with the better fighters in the tournament.

Froch is basically coming up empty most of the time when he attempts to land his big power shots. This is why it’s imperative that Froch work on his defense and at least try keep from getting knocked out in this fight. If he can stay his feet for 12 rounds against Abraham, then there’s a small chance that he can win a decision. It’s not likely but it is a possibility. But I think Froch is going to get knocked out because he’s been hurt in each of his last two fights and that’s not a good sign going into this fight with the biggest puncher in the Super Six tournament Abraham.
