Are there better options out there for Derek Chisora?

By Mark Hepplestall: Firstly I would like to point out I am a Wladimir Klitschko Fan and I am a Derek Chisora fan and for that very reason I can see exactly why these two vastly different boxers are not ready to fight each other. Wladimir is without doubt the best boxer in the Heavyweight Division while Derek Chisora is not even at European level yet.

Derek Chisora is the current British and Commonwealth title holder, even though Chisora has agreed a deal with Wladimir Klitschko to fight in December there may have been better options to bring him on as a boxer and to build a real fan base before fighting for a world title. Currently in Britain the fans are fragmented between the British Prospects including Tyson Fury, Martin Rogan, Tom Dallas, David Price, Larry Olubamiwo and Richard Towers. Fighting these boxers would unify the fans behind a true British champion causing him to gain more money and worldwide exposure. The one to watch is Tyson Fury any future bout between Chisora and Fury would capture the whole of Britain and could be as big as Haye Vs Harrison

Extending to the Commonwealth, Chisora could have found himself fighting prospects such as Carlos Takam, Kali Meehan, Alex Leapai, David Tua, Neven Pajkic or even Samuel Peter. All of these would bring Chisora on as a boxer and would raise his game towards a world title (even though he already has a shot) The fight to watch here would be Chisora Vs Sam Peter, i see many similarities between the two and think the fight would be very close.

Most importantly i think Chisora has made a mistake by not taking on the aging but still British and European level journeymen such as Audley Harrison, Michael Sprott and Matt Skelton. These fighters are better than the normal journeymen brought in to bolster up a boxers record, these boxers are better than the British level and there and about at the European level these are important stepping stone fights that Chisora has missed which would help to build his fan base and gain much needed money for both boxers.

Moving to European level would include great fights against the likes of Albert Sosnowski, Oleh Platov, Denis Boytsov and Francesco Pianeta. All of which would be great fights and would help Chisora to be able to pick the world champion he wants to fight. The fight to watch would be Sosnowski Vs Chisora, this would be a huge European fight and would increase their chances for future greatness.

Unfortunately when Chisora fights Wladimir and most likely loses he will have to start again from square one, at this point the likes of Tyson Fury, David Price and Tom Dallas would be biting at his heels and Frank Warren may just feed him to the dogs.
