Haye clears up Klitschko matter: Wladimir and David will probably never agree to terms

by Ronnie Jordan: World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) has just released a video on his twtter page concerning his recent failed nagotiations with IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KO’s). It comes over a week after his last update which he told us to ‘stay tuned because soon I will let you all know what my plans are and I will tell you why Wladimir Klitschko is a b*#ch and not me.’ So this latest installment is the anticipated video release Haye was promising.

Well, he hasn’t anounced his latest opponant but he has let us in on the reasons the fight didnt happen. He claims his demands for 50% of the money earned from the fight incuding ticket sales and territories ect ect, was declined from klitschko. Haye states that klitschko is tied in with a television company in Germany which prevents him from giving his fair share of the money.

Haye goes on to state that as an alternative he would be willing to claim the money earned in the UK from the fight and allow Klitschko to have the German share of the money, which Wladimir also declined. Haye seems to feel Wladimir is trying to control the negotiations and cheat Haye out of his fair share. Klitschko gave a recent radio interview which completely contradicts this. According to Wladimir, he is willing to accept Haye demands for 50% share. He’s literally called Haye out stating this via Youtube and believes Haye’s lack of response is proof he is running scared.

So the soap opera continues. Are we as boxing fans meant to put up with this? I’m a David Haye fan and believes he’s the most exciting heavyweight by a mile but I’m losing faith in his ambition to become undisputed champ. His talk is becoming more and more cheap by the day and its now very hard to defend him. Haye has set the bar high in respect to his negotiating demands but it seems he’s really not willing to budge at all. He believes his stock is higher than Wladimir’s and therefore should be able to be in control when deciding who gets what. The thing is Wladimir Klitschko didn’t get where he is today by being told what to do. I believe the demands Haye made stretched a little to far. I don’t know the ins and outs of it all but from what I gather Haye would like Wlad to end his contract with a certain television company because there is more money to be had in Germany.

Basically, Haye is telling him to change his contractual obligations which to me is very cheeky. Ive always suspected both the Klitschko’s were very hard to negotiate with in the past and could understand Haye’s unwillingness agree to there ludicrous demands but now it seems Haye’s demands are becoming ludicrous. Whether he likes it or not Wladimir is the bigger draw of the two and he cant tell him what to do. It’s now got to the stage where it not only doesn’t look like happening soon but it actually looks like it will never happen. If they failed to get it on twice already why will that change in the future. Maybe as fans we should just forget about this match up and concentrate on the rest of boxing.

Whats even more disheartening about Haye’s career of late is his choice of an alternative opponent. It seems the Audley Harrison bout is likely to end up happening which is good news for one person. Audley Harrison. Not for his career because he’ll get knocked out but it means he gets a decent pay day for his last fight. All Haye has done with this hole saga is get thousand of people excited about the prospect of a clash with one of the Klitschko’s then put the hole affair into a complete farce by fighting the joke of British boxing.

Most would agree if Haye decided he wasn’t quite ready for the brothers and instead built up his resume beating decent heavyweight opponents no one would think bad of him. In fact, people would respect him far more. Maybe he could take on someone like Samuel Peter or Ruslan Chagaev. It would give him a real test but both would be fights Haye could win. But to return to the ring after so much hype and take on Harrison who is probably about the 10th best British heavyweight right now is a kick in the teeth to his fans.

the funny thing is I think Haye actually has a chance beating Klitschko but I’ve made a decision for my own well being that I’m not going to entertain the idea he’ll fight him until I see him actually step through those ropes.
