Froch vs. Abraham: Look for Carl to impress for four rounds and then get destroyed

Image: Froch vs. Abraham: Look for Carl to impress for four rounds and then get destroyedBy William Mackay: Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) should look good for about four rounds in his October 2nd Super Six fight against Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) in Monaco, but after that I see Abraham coming to life and giving Froch major problems with his big power shots. Abraham is a notoriously slow starter, but I think he’s going to be coming out a lot faster against Froch then he usually does because of his loss in his last fight against Andre Dirrell last March.

Abraham was defeated by an 11th round disqualification and he’s taken the loss really hard and wants to make boxing fans forget about it as fast as possible. Froch is going to make it really easy for Abraham by coming into the teeth of his offense on October 2nd. This isn’t going to be a fight where Abraham has to chase Andre Dirrell around the ring trying to connect with head shuts and missing over and over again.

Froch, with his plodding style of fighting and low guard, will be there for Abraham to land his big power shots. Think of it like baseball where a pitcher throws a nice slow, hittable pitch right over the center of the plate to a power hitter. Abraham is going to be the power hitter on October 2nd, and Froch will be presenting his head as the slow hittable pitch for Abraham to knock out of the park.

With Froch’s wide open melon just begging to be parked into the second row, Abraham is going to be literally teeing off early and often. I know Froch has been hard a work trying like the devil to change his fighting style, but that’s just not humanly possible for a 33-year-old fighter like Froch who just doesn’t have the versatility or the physical gifts that some of the younger Super Six tournament contestants have like Dirrell and Andre Ward.

The hand speed, the foot speed and the ability fight in a relaxed manner just isn’t there for Froch. He’s just totally rigid when he’s fighting. When you’re taking on a huge puncher like Abraham, you absolutely have to be light on your feet to avoid his big shots. Think of gumby.

Froch has got to be limber and quick, but he’s not. He’s slow and rigid as a board when he fights. I expect Froch to be over compensating by trying to show that he’s not afraid of Abraham. So instead of running for the hills, which would be the smart thing for Froch to do, I can see him just trying to cruise through Abraham.

So, I see Froch as the titanic and I picture Abraham as the iceberg that sank the titanic. Froch is going to go right at the iceberg of an Abraham and try to run him over like he’s a little ice cube. The problem is that Abraham is going to stop Froch in his tracks and mortally wound him with some big head shots that will send Froch slowly sinking to the canvas in a Titanic-esque manner. Once he’s down, I see Froch staying in the depths not rising again until they can drag him up to his feet after administering to him for a lengthy amount of time.
