Image: Prediction: Pacquiao's next three opponents - Cotto, Margarito and Chavez Jr.By Dave Lahr: This is hilarious. Instead of fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr., and giving boxing fans what they want to see, Manny Pacquiao is probably going to be put back in with Miguel Cotto in a fight that few people want to see, aside from Cotto fans. But it doesn’t end there.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has said recently that he’ll try to match Pacquiao up with Mayweather in early 2011. I don’t buy that. The last time I checked, Mayweather is an awesome fighter who is capable of beating Pacquiao and ending the gravy train all at once. Mayweather also doesn’t fight for Top Rank, so the Mayweather-Pacquiao isn’t happening in early 2011.

That’s my prediction. Besides, Arum still would have some other fighters in his stable that he hadn’t put in with Pacquiao yet. If Antonio Margarito can get his boxing license back in the U.S, then he’ll come next and be just as quickly wiped out by Pacquiao.

And then, with Cotto destroyed twice and Margarito once, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will be the next piece of the puzzle to be inserted by Arum for a fight which will likely take place in Texas. Never mind that Chavez would be hopelessly out of his class and would like a schoolboy that had wondered into a boxing ring with a trained professional.

I see Chavez getting put in there none the less. Depending on how badly Pacquiao destroyed Cotto in his 2nd fight with him, Cotto could get put in for a third fight with Pacquiao, especially if their second fight does at least 700,000 pay-per-view buys.

Once Cotto has been beaten three times, its doubtful Arum will want to test the public’s patience by putting Cotto in for a 4th time with Pacquiao, but I wouldn’t rule it out. If not, then I see Pacquiao going around again with fights against Margarito and Chavez Jr. one more time for another cycle of pain, especially for fans that watch it.

In the meantime, Mayweather will have been achieving greatness by fighting and beating fighters like Paul Williams, Sergio Martinez and Andre Berto, and further enhancing his great legacy for all time.
